A, B, CC…

Valentino-HCJust got your head around the BB Cream? Good. Now it’s time to start getting to know your CC cream.

Not quite a face cream, not quite a foundation, what a CC (‘colour’ or ‘complexion correcting’) cream means to you and I is a primer with benefits to correct your skin tone before you even think about putting make-up on top.

Developed in Japan, and now hugely popular in Asia, where it’s been a part of their traditional layering ritual for a few years now, CC creams are used to treat, cover or correct an anything less than perfect skin tone.

Thinner, and lighter than a BB cream (which means ‘beauty balm’ or ‘blemish balm’ and in practice means tinted moisturiser with benefits) they can be used to brighten, reduce dark spots, take out redness, revive or plump – but they don’t come with a tint or concealer like quality. A CC cream sits more comfortably in the skincare category, than the make-up category – a BB cream straddles the two.

Ultimately these are primers (so the last step before make-up if you’re applying on top) with benefits which work both in the short term for an instant fix, and because of their added skincare ingredients in the long term to correct your complexion too – and for the record most come with an SPF, so they also act as your sun shield.
