Kelly Barriball is not only a good friend but she is the amazingly beautiful PR and Communications Manager for ModelCo Cosmetics. We chat to her about all things beauty.
How would you describe your personal style, fashion and beauty wise?
Fashion wise, I’m pretty relaxed. You’ll most likely find me in black ankle boots, skinny jeans or something short on the bottom with something layered or loose on the top. More often than not, I will be in black. I’m a huge fan of Sass and Bide for something a bit different but super wearable and Chaos & Harmony for shoes. My new Pixie Boots are my current faves.
Considering I work for a cosmetics company, my beauty regime changes as I try out different products and styles, however I tend to keep it pretty simple – flawless, luminous skin (thanks to ModelCo Face Base skin primer and Luminosity Whip), mascara and a bright lip.
What five products can’t you live without?
Paw Paw Lip Ointment, Mascara (ModelCo Fibre Lash has changed my life), nail polish (I hate a bare nail), concealer (my current fave is Bella Vi Cream Concealer) and a good primer (ModelCo Face Base skin primer has a silicon base, feels velvety smooth and keeps makeup in place for up to 10 hours).
What do you love most about working for ModelCo?
Working with inspiring, encouraging females who think outside the box and are not afraid to take risks.
What does your skincare routine consist of?
I go through stages and like to try different brands. Whatever I’m using, I always cleanse both morning and night, use an exfoliating scrub 2-3 times a week and always apply Trilogy Rosehip Oil at night.
Best trick to brighten up a morning after face?
Mix a little luminiser in with your tinted moisturiser or foundation (I love ModelCo’s Luminosity Shimmer Whip, it gives just enough shimmer to lift your skin and help counteract dull skin), curl your eyelashes to open up those peepers and slap on some bright lipstick. It’s an instant pick-me-up.
How do you stay healthy?
I try to eat well 80% of the time though this sometimes drops to a lesser ratio. I eat lots of fresh fruit and vegies and as I am gluten intolerant, eat gluten free 95% of the time. I’ve just started working with an amazing Holistic Health and Wellness Coach so I’m finding out the perfect diet for my body AND learning how to manage stress at the same time. She’s amazing. I live in Bronte, Sydney where I am blessed with the most amazing coastal walks right on my doorstep so try to run or walk at least three times a week and I’m about to start practising yoga again – it’s the best way to switch off.
What are your thoughts on plastic surgery?
I‘d only ever consider Botox but my boyfriend is dead against it, so I guess I’ll just have to age gracefully.
Who is your beauty icon and why?
Kate Bosworth is incredible; she nails it every single time. Her skin is amazing and she’s not afraid to experiment either, I loved her dark plum lips at the Met Gala. I think it all comes down to having good skin, the rest is all a bonus and the Bos is certainly blessed in this department.
What has been your biggest beauty disaster?
Plucking my own eyebrows at 14. Best left to the professionals.
What is the best beauty advice you’ve ever been given?
Look after your skin first and foremost and everything else will work regardless.
How do you treat yourself?
I have a slight shoe addiction, I think I have over 10 pairs of black ankle boots now but I like to think of it as treating myself.
